Johannes Andersen was a prominent Danish designer whose creations contributed to the excellence of Scandinavian furniture. Although less known than his contemporaries such as Hans Wegner, Arne Jacobsen, Borge Mogensen and Finn Juhl, Andersen produced some of the most elegant furniture in Scandinavian design. Born in Aarhus, Denmark, in 1903, he began as an apprentice cabinetmaker and obtained his certificate in 1922. In the 1930s, he opened his own workshop and collaborated with other design houses, such as CFC Silkeborg, Uldum Møbelfabrik and Trensum. Their designs encompass seating, tables and storage in well-crafted materials such as rosewood and teak. Andersen attracted international attention and praise, especially for his coffee tables, such as the sculptural "Smile Table." His organic approach and ability to combine distinctive shapes and fluid curves left a lasting mark on the world of Danish design.
