François Pompon was a French sculptor. Originally from Saulieu, a town near Dijon, he moved to Paris at the age of 18, where he worked as an assistant to Auguste Rodin. He is famous for his animal sculptures, many of which are on display at the Musée d'Orsay, most notably his most famous work, "Ours blanc" (White Bear). His style is distinguished by the simplicity of his creations.
