MANUEL PICOLO (Murcia, 1851 - 1913). "Landscape. Oil on canvas. Signed in the lower right corner. Measurements: 41 x 33 cm; 54,5 x 46 cm (frame). Manuel Pícolo began his artistic studies in Murcia, to then complete them in Madrid, in the Superior School, pensioned by the Provincial Council of Murcia, and later in Paris. He was awarded a gold medal at the Lorca Exhibition (Murcia) in 1876, and also participated in the National Exhibition of 1881, with a genre painting that was praised by the critics, and acquired by the Portuguese ambassador in Madrid. Pícolo assiduously cultivated decorative painting, a genre to which he devoted the best of his talent and to which belong the ceilings of the coffee lounge, the game room and the cabinet of the Casino of Murcia, whose execution was obtained through public competition. In the same building he made two large sets for the ceiling of the ballroom. He was distinguished with consideration of third medal in the National Exhibition of 1887, and with third medal in that of 1892. Manuel Pícolo is currently represented in the Museum of Fine Arts of Murcia, the Prado Museum (works on deposit in the Supreme Court of Justice of Las Palmas and in the Padre Luis Coloma Institute of Jerez de la Frontera), as well as in various private collections.
