Cavalry officer's saber. Grooved ebony handle. Brass mounting, lion's head pommel, guard with two quillons, one straight, with unmounted chain and mounts. Curved, flat-backed damascus-style blade. Iron plate scabbard with three brass fittings, two of which are decorated with cartouche foliage depicting mythological scenes and cavalry combat. Composite, partly late 18th century style.
