CHIRVAN gallery carpet (Caucasus), late 19th century Dimensions: 312 x 95cm. Technical features: Wool velvet on wool foundation. A brick field hosts four crenellated lozenge medallions, interspersed with two sky-arched cruciform shapes. These five medallions are adorned with polychrome vegetation. Medes stars, botehs and rhombic corollas embellish the field. Wide old gold border with undulating stylized leaves and alternating pyramidal floral compositions, flanked by two royal blue counter-borders with garlands of brick florets. Rare graphics.
