Elga Heinzen (née en 1933) Replis-N 1980 Black pencil on linen canvas signed and dated lower left, countersigned, titled and dated on the back 77 x 55 cm Elga Heinzen is a Swiss artist, both visual artist and photographer, who lives and works in Paris. Her work is characterized by an in-depth exploration of folds in all their forms, a central theme that she develops with exceptional finesse in her paintings. Her creations highlight the sculptural dimension of folds, underscoring the intimate relationship between textile and garment. The artist succeeds in bringing matter to life, playing with textures and dynamics to breathe movement and vitality into her subjects. Elga Heinzen's work has been shown in numerous prestigious galleries in the United States, England, Italy and France. In June 2016, Galerie 24B in Paris organized a retrospective of her work. "Elga Heinzen's work is rooted in the ancient and fascinating tradition of drapery studies. This is no coincidence: Elga Heinzen has long known that, to highlight the power of representation, it is necessary to show what is hidden, as well as to hide what is shown. Because to represent is to show the invisible. What is present is always the sign of an absence." (Pascal Bonafoux, writer and art historian) (MLD)
