Suite of 6 square-backed molded and carved wood fauteuils à la reine in cream lacquer, fluted armrests and arm brackets finished with scrolls, straight crosspieces connected to the legs by rosette dice, fluted tapered legs, 2 of which are filleted.
(Restorations, including a reinforced armchair seat, lacquer wear).
Louis XVI period - Stamps can be read on 5 of the 6 armchairs (front crosspiece): S. BRIZARD for Sulpice Brizard, received master in 1762
Antique stitch upholstery with animal cartouches surrounded by friezes and foliage, reminiscent of La Fontaine's Fables.

Comment: Sulpice Brizard (1733-c. 1796) became a master on February 13, 1762. Married to the daughter of carpenter Meunier, he established himself on rue de Cléry in Paris. He is said to have worked for the Court, assisted by his workshop. Examples of his chair production can be found in various French institutions, including the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, the Musée Carnavalet and the Musée du Louvre.
