Oriental images Mixed media on canvas 115 x 75 cm This is the story of a crumpled girl who, like so many others, leaves her native country with images of those pretty houses with their red-tiled roofs, so welcoming and often so sad despite their apparent happiness... These are different superimposed states of mind representing the traditional Lebanese house that opens onto a marble balcony with meticulous ironwork. It's a two-storey stone cube with a brick-tiled roof and a bourgeois-style arcade façade. The Mediterranean blue of the background dominates the artist's mind. These are visions, sometimes damaged and shattered, of an East struggling to rebuild itself, and sometimes joyous, with lively colors reminiscent of the gentle Levantine way of life. Years of insouciance and absolute joie de vivre contrast with visions of heartbreak, shattering and suffering. To paint the landscapes of a country, imbued with emotions that are sometimes abstract and sometimes realistic, to transcribe the love for this land that has endured so much but has always risen with strength and dignity, is to reveal all the wounds of a nomadic childhood and to imbue them with hope through all these colors.
