This plate comes from the service whose decoration is described as Zone violete and Volubilis in the Sèvres factory registers. The service was delivered on November 8, 1787 to Hans Konrad Hottinger, a Parisian banker who had been associated with Denis de Rougemont in 1786. The service included 48 plates at 18 livres each, as well as 9 other plates at the same price, although it is not certain that they had the same decoration. Fifteen additional plates described as "volubilis" were purchased by Monsieur de Rougemont on April 5, 1791. For a study of this service, see David Peters, op. cit. IV, no. 87-12, pp. 845-846.
