Introduced in 1989 to the Cartier collections, the Tank Américaine is inspired by the design of the 1920s Tank Cintrée. In 1994, a chronograph version appeared, marketed under reference 2312 and equipped with a Chronoflex quartz movement. Invented by Piaget in 1991, the Chronoflex is one of the world's smallest quartz movements. Combining a calendar and a chronograph, this remains a special watch in the Cartier universe.
Bibliography: Franco Cologni, "Cartier, la montre Tank, icône du temps", Flammarion, Paris, 2012, a similar example reproduced on p.167.
