Pierre Philippe DENFERT-ROCHEREAU
(1823-1878), French soldier, defender of Belfort during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870.
Set of two items:
- Autograph letter signed "Colonel (for short) Denfert-Rochereau", addressed from Versailles on June 15, 1877, on letterhead of the Chambre des Députés, informing his interlocutor of his inability to have him attend a session of the Chamber.
"We have not had any tickets for a fortnight. However, we had to imagine the most impossible means to place a few retarded characters, such as members of foreign parliaments, who could not be turned away. Today, even the Emperor of Brazil would ask us to put him in a niche, but we couldn't."
One page in-4, in brown ink.
- Autograph bill signed "Colonel (for short) Denfert-Rochereau", addressed from Versailles on February 25, 1878, on letterhead of the Chambre des Députés. half-page in-12.
