Indian miniature
Polychrome pigments and gold on paper
North India, 18th century, partly repainted in the 20th century
Size: 22 x 15 cm
This Indian miniature depicts a richly-dressed courtesan holding onto the branches of a willow blossoming above her. The original 18th-century painting (consisting of the female figure, the tree and the hilltop visible at the top) has been partly repainted, with the later addition of gold on the background.
It is presented in its frame, with a document from the Musée Guimet dated July 28, 1947 on the back, with a description of the miniature.
