. FRANCE ORDER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, founded in 1578. Important set including : -Order vest or "jacket" in green embroidered silk, lined in green silk, fastened with nine buttons embroidered with the dove of the Holy Spirit in silver canetille, with two false pockets. Collar, vest and false pockets entirely and profusely embroidered with flames in silver and red-tinted silver flakes, a frieze of lilies au naturel enriched with ribbons in gilded silver flakes and canetille, embroidered with heraldic fleurs-de-lys and the number "H" under a crown in silver canetille and scarlet silk thread. Restoration to one side of the collar, where the cloth has been replaced by a fragment of facing. -Two cape facings. In green embroidered silk, embroidered with a semiset of flames of the Holy Spirit in sequins and red-tinted sequins, and a rich border of ribbons, lily auxnaturel and monogram under crown of the order's founder, Henri III. All framed under glass. (Wear and oxidation of the embroidery). A.B.E. Restoration period, probably before 1825. Historical background: We quote from the "Description du costume de l'ordre du Saint esprit, établi en 1777 par S.M. Louis XVI, et prescrit sans changemens par S.M. Charles X": "Jacket of apple-green silk fabric, background embroidered like the paremens, with a border reigning all around and on the pocket tabs, also analogous to the collar ornaments, buttons embroidered like those on the habit; lining at will".
