AN ILLUMINATED QAJAR QURAN, PERSIA EARLY 19TH CENTURY
Arabic manuscript on paper, 228 leaves plus 2 fly-leaves, 16 lines to the page, written in naskh script in black ink with red interlinear Persian translation in naskh, ruled in polychrome and gold, verses separated by gold rosettes outlined in black, surah headings in white thuluth script against a light green ground within cartouches, occasional marginal gold and polychrome ' hisb, juz and nisf' markers, marginal ownership seals, f.1b and f.2a with a double-page spread of gold and polychrome decoration framing 7-lines of text , f.2b and f.3a with a double page of illumination, f.98b and f.99a with similar decoration, f.212b and f.213a with similar decoration. Last two pages with gold and polychrome decoration framing 9-lines of text in large naskh script.
