A MAMLUK REVIVAL SILVER INLAID BRASS QURAN BOX, SYRIA 19TH CENTURY A Mamluk revival brass Quran box of square form raised on four flared feet, the hinged lid with sloping sides, the edges with applied bands and pointed bosses, profusely decorated with inlaid silver, the top with a central wheel inscription surrounded by floral arabesque interlace, the sloping edges and sides with inscriptions in thuluth and angual kufic script between bands of swirling floral interlace, the wooden interior decorated with marquetry geometric designs. Inscriptions: Ayat al-Kursi/ verse of Throne from surah al-Baqraa Height: 23 cm. 30 by 30 cm.
