Pendulum, Jean-François Denière, Paris, 19th century Case in chased and gilt bronze with rich rocailles decoration on which rest figures of cupids and triton blowing in a patinated bronze shell. Signed dial with Roman numeration for hours and Arabic for minutes. The signatures "Denière" or "Denière Fabt de Bronzes à Paris" are those of Jean-François Denière (1774-1866), one of the most important purveyors of bronze furniture in the late 18th century and the first decades of the following century. Until the 1820s, his collaboration with François-Thomas Matelin led him to participate in the decoration of many imperial palaces and castles in Europe, supplying bronze furniture and clocks and enjoying wide acclaim among the major collectors of the time.
