Jean Michel FOLON (1934-2005). From a series of three works in three different techniques. Carpaccio is dead. Ink drawing dedicated to "Pompette et Francis". Burey, July 6, 1977. Size : 44 x 63 cm.
This declination of works «Carpaccio is dead», which we offer for sale, has the same source of inspiration as the ink of colors presented in the museum of the Folon Foundation, realized by Folon in 1970 for Paola Ghiringhelli, A nod to their stay in Venice and inspired by Vittore Carpaccio’s famous painting «The Dream of Saint Ursula» exhibited at the Accademia in Venice. This one – dated and signed in 1495 – is the sixth of the Renaissance painter’s episodes on the legend of Saint Ursula. The colour ink «Carpaccio is dead» presented at the Foundation’s museum includes a collage, Folon having taken a piece of Carpaccio’s painting depicting Saint Ursula dreaming in her bed. Folon was inspired by this subject for the declination of other works. We thank the Folon Foundation who kindly informed us about the origin of the subject.
