Léon SPILLIAERT (1881-1946). Girl with red bow. 1921. Pencil, watercolor (blue, green, yellow, red, beige, brown), gouache (blue, black), India ink on paper. Signed upper right in yellow watercolor. Authenticated on the back by Mrs. Madeleine Spilliaert and Mrs. Léon Spilliaert: "We the undersigned, widow and daughter / of the artist, certify that this / watercolor is an authentic work / by Léon Spilliaert / M. Spilliaert Vve Léon Spilliaert (black bic). We would like to thank Madame Adriaens Pannier for confirming the work's authenticity and providing an interesting descriptive sheet, which will be given to the purchaser and is also available on request from the studio. La fillette au nœud rouge will be included in the catalog raisonné Léon Spilliaert currently being prepared by Madame Dr. Anne Adriaens Pannier. Provenance: Artist's studio. Collection Mesdames Rachel & Madeleine Spilliaert, Uccle. Circa 1981: Christian Fayt Art Gallery, Knokke-Heist. 2002: Brussels Collection. Dimensions: 75.5 x 55 cm. Very good condition. Scrupulous examination reveals a tiny tear of one centimetre on the right-hand edge, approximately 14.5 cm from the bottom. A thumbtack hole in the upper right corner. Paper slightly bowed in several places.
