Armand HENRION (1875-1958). Liège school. Sleeping Beauty. 99% of the painter's repertoire consists of depictions of smiling clowns or Pierrot faces. On two occasions, however, we find a portrait of a lady whose face and features are those of our sleeping beauty. Without being able to assert a kinship between artist and model, this is clearly a lady who was close or familiar to the painter. Related models: "Femme lisant" (Woman reading), in which the subject is seated beside a saddle illuminated by the subdued light of a Japanese lamp (Lhomme sale 23/3/19). "Portrait Einer Frau, 1907". This time the subject poses elegantly dressed (Sale Von Zengen Germany 21/06/14). Oil on canvas. Size : 41 x 61 cm.
