SHOBI carpet (Afghanistan), late 20th century Dimensions: 213 x 202cm. Technical features: wool velvet on cotton backing. A cherry-colored field hosts an ivory honeycombed trellis, paving-style, adorned with small multicolored gühls with Mede stars. They are interspersed with cruciform star shapes on a greenish background. The frame is composed of a main cherry border with polychrome head-and-tail pyramid shapes and kotchaks, flanked by two navy and ivory counter-borders with stylized floral garlands. Positive/negative chess pawn highlights. Beautiful palette and great originality. Almost square.
