Nicolas-Vassili BARBE, born 1981 Plac'hig he botoù-koad (Girl with little clogs), 2024 One-piece carved cedar wood and acrylic ink. Unique piece monogrammed NVB on the base. Height 100 - Width 30 - Depth 33 cm --- Nicolas-Vassili BARBE, born in 1981 Lives and works in Saint-Coulomb (Ille-et-Vilaine). Having spent his childhood in the trees, Nicolas-Vassili has naturally made wood the sole material for his sculptures. The human figures are not fully visible. Nicolas-Vassili Barbé likes to surprise and question, combining the realism of his sculpted forms with the rawness of the material, the precision of his gestures and the violence of his blows, the traces of which often remain visible. Funny to some, intriguing or disturbing to others, Nicolas-Vassili's sculptures are as much inspired by his everyday environment as by events that marked him as a child: the sinking of the Erika, the Chernobyl disaster. By carving shapes out of wood, NVB aims to question "our relationship with the world", humanity and its origins, the relationship between the sacred and the everyday, religion and consumerism. The raw material for her sculptures comes from local wood salvaged by friends, neighbors, farmers and tree-climbers. NVB regularly exhibits his work in gardens, parks, natural spaces and galleries. Last but not least, he also took part in the "Nature et merveilles" event organized by Rennes Enchères Bretagne in 2022, and is offering two previously unseen sculptures, entitled Plac'hig he he, as part of the Ar Seiz Avel auction. entitled Plac'hig he botoù-koad (Little girl with little clogs) and Les deux pieds dans le même sabot.
