Awen PRIGENT, born 1976
Awen Prigent has been working as a ceramic potter for 20 years in Belle Isle en Terre, in the Trégor region of France. This passion, like a disci pline of life, has led him to a quest for balance in form and the pursuit of beauty, largely inspired by nature and Breton culture, both of which are imbued in him.
The two sets from the Gwenn ha du collection he is presenting as part of Ar Seiz Avel are rich in his diverse inspirations. They include a slender pitcher with cups, and a tea service whose motifs are directly borrowed from Brittany and its art: triskèle and fern for one, and a cross motif for the other. He reinterprets these signs in an "art deco" style, with a refined spirit and soft lines for the shape of the pieces, with a black and white contrast that reinforces the graphic parts.
reinforce the graphic parts.
For the event, he also created a large stele retracing the highlights of Brittany's art history. At its base, we find the motifs of megalithic culture with the undulating engravings of the Gavrinis cairn, in the center the Armorican Celtic period, then the modern period with Bigouden and Seiz Breur motifs, at the top the contemporary period and its organic moldings.
