COUBERTIN (Baron Pierre de) (1863-1937) J. Gonzalez Sculpture, H. 23 cm This 1894 bust, signed J. Gonzalez, seems to represent Baron de Coubertin at the height of his powers. On its porphyry base (diam. 11cm, h. 10.5), this handsome, strong bronze head (23 cm) resembles several documents depicting him at the time. Is it really him? The resemblance is strikingly characteristic, and the moustache alone leans towards the baron. An unrivalled orator, he will tell us: "the sale is open, the bets are on...".
