LA NOUE (François de). Discours politiques et militaires. Bâle, François Forest, 1587. In-folio, fawn calf, triple fillet, ornate spine, red parts (18th century binding).
First edition.
La Noue, a Protestant though Breton, was one of the most valiant captains of the Huguenot party. The ideas he defends are those of moderation and tolerance, all the more meritorious and convincing as they are expressed by a man who, for his convictions, continually risked his life on the battlefield.
From the Henri Monod library, with his gilt figure on the corner of the first cover.
Deaths restored.
