HÜE (François). Last years of the reign and life of Louis XVI. London, De l'Imprimerie de Harper et Co, Et se trouve chez l'Auteur, Deboffe, Dulau et Co et Deconchy, 1806. In-8, paperback.
Extremely rare first edition of the memoirs of Louis XVI's first valet de chambre. Tourneux, no. 95, cites only the second edition of 1814.
Printed in London under the Empire, the frontispiece features a portrait of Louis XVI in the last moments of his life, engraved by Schiavonetti after a drawing by the author.
Alongside the recollections of Cléry and the Duchesse d'Angoulême, the book is an important testimony to the royal family's captivity. It also includes the official version of Louis XVI's death.
A paperback copy, as issued, the spine reinforced with a strip of blue paper.
Bookplates and stamps on title of two religious institutions.
Lacks of paper on headpieces.
