CONSERVATEUR (Le). Paris, au bureau du Conservateur, et chez Le Normant fils, 1818-1820. 78 issues in 6 volumes in-8, long-grained red half-maroquin, ornate spine (period binding).
Complete collection of this ultra-royalist journal, whose contributors included Chateaubriand, Bonald, Castelbajac, Lamennais, Fiévrée, Salaberry, etc., and which denounced the policies of the governments of Duplessis-Richelieu, then Élie Decazes, accused of defending revolutionary interests, thus jeopardizing the Charter of 1814.
In his Mémoires, Chateaubriand recalls the unprecedented influence of the journal, which ceased publication in 1820 to protest against the proposed censorship of the press.
A fine copy.
Small tear to one cover.
