Robert ROUSSIL (1925-2013) Composition Ink and gouache on paper 152 x 105 cm Robert Roussil was born in 1925 in Montreal, Canada, and died in 2013 in Tourrettes sur Loup. From an early age, he demonstrated a talent for the arts. In 1943, he enlisted to fight in Europe with the Maisonneuve Regiment. In 1945, back in Montreal, he benefited from a reintegration plan adapted to veterans; on the advice of a colonel who was a vocational guidance counsellor for veterans, he enrolled at the Montreal School of Fine Arts. This enabled him to commit himself fully to sculpture, and he held his first exhibition in Montreal in 1946. In 1952, he returned to Europe as an artist and exhibited at the Galerie Creuze in Paris. From the 50s onwards, he took part in numerous sculpture salons, exhibitions and symposia in both Europe and America, and his monumental, site-specific works can be found in many public spaces. Robert Roussil is also represented in Canadian museums.
