Although he trained as an advertising graphic designer, David B. in 1985 began working as a scriptwriter and cartoonist for several magazines (Okapi, À suivre, Tintin Reporter, Chic).In 1990 he assumed an increasingly central role in the comics scene, thanks in part to the founding of the publishing house L'Association together with Jean-Christophe Menu, Lewis Trondheim, Matt Konture, Patrice Killoffer Stanislas, and Mokeït. Most of his work from the 1990s is published in Lapin magazine, and then collected in the volumes Le Cheval blême and Les Incidents de la nuit. It is assumed that these eight plates are part of this strardinary period of research and experimentation. Artist saluted to worldwide success following the publication between 1996 and 2003 of the autobiographical work Il grande male (published in Italy by the Coconino publishing house), which describes his own childhood in relation to the illness of his brother, who often suffered severe epileptic seizures.
