Folded fan with openwork mother-of-pearl strands and plumes, with painted and gilded decoration featuring birds in niches, a lictor beam, standards and warrior attributes. The leaf is painted in oil and depicts female allegories of the liberal arts in an idealized antique-style architecture. The reverse of the leaf is decorated with a scene evoking a meeting between an elegant woman and a soldier, spied on by a woman with a fruit basket. The rivet is held by a small peridot (wear on the mounting, the leaf torn in places and a strand detached from the leaf). Late 18th / early 19th century Diameter: 55 cm In a Plexiglas presentation box
