Pierre-Auguste RENOIR (1841-1919), in collaboration with Richard GUINO (1890-1973). Little Venus standing or Little Venus. Victrix - 1913. Antique bronze proof. Rich brown patina. Florentin Godard fondeur (casting circa 1925-1930). Ambroise Vollard publisher. Signed on the edge of the terrace. Numbered VIIII on the terrace. H : 60.5 ; W : 31.7 ; D : 22 cm. Note: Rare early cast of this sculpture, of which another is numbered XXII. Venus victrix illustrates the triumph of the goddess of love over her rivals, Minerva and Juno. She holds the apple given to her by the shepherd Pâris, the sole judge of this beauty contest. The antiquisant style echoes Renoir's later style. Like Maillol, Bourdelle and Picasso at the same time, he turned to the Greco-Roman model in what came to be known as "the return to style", combining realism and idealism. This is reflected in the Venus's streamlined silhouette, her gentle, measured movements, the smooth surface and round shapes of her body. Exhibitions: - "Guino Renoir", Musée. Hyacinthe Rigaud, Perpignan,. June to November 2023
