Pierre-Jules Mène (Paris 1810 - 1879 Paris), "L' Accolade" (The Embrace), 1852-94, bronze, golden-brown patina, extremely naturalistic depiction of two Arabian horses turning towards each other on a slightly rising rocky ground, oval stepped base, signed on the base, WVZ: Poletti/Richarme CHE 20, the names of the horses are recorded as Tachiani and Nedjebé, there are three different sizes of the sculpture, this version was the largest and was produced until 1894 either as a studio cast (unmarked) or by Fernand Barbedienne (with foundry mark), in 1894 the rights were sold to Susse Frères, 53 x 21 cm, h: 34 cm. Limit 300,- >> French sculptor and animal painter. Considered one of the pioneers of animal sculpture in the 19th century.
