School of French traveler painters of Indochina (19th - 20th century).
"Plaine des tombeaux, Saïgon, 1894".
Watercolor signed "Filamy(?)", located and dated lower left, two handwritten labels glued to the glass (tear upper left).
Note: At the end of the 19th century, art was also used to showcase the French colonies and familiarize France with its new territories. French artists were sent to Indochina on travel grants, with the mission of bringing back their impressions in pictorial form.
The initiative culminated in the creation of the Hanoi School of Fine Arts in 1924.
