DEPARTMENT OF PARIS - DISTRICT OF SAINT LOUIS. GARDE NATIONALE. Paris October 26, 1790; vellum obl. in-4 partly printed, headed Brevet de Garde national, engraved decoration.
Brevet de Garde national issued to René Couet Charpentier, a 55-year-old native of Tierret in Anjou, registered on June 6, 1790 in the Compagnie de chasseur du Bataillon, where he served successively as Fusillée (?) and Caporal. Nicolas engraved the upper part with the coat of arms of the city of Paris and four flags, with Justice on the right and the Republic breaking its chains on the left. The lower part depicts the storming of the Bastille in a cartouche surrounded by cannons and flags, illustrating the motto Qui servient bien sa patrie n'a pas besoin d'ayeux.
