Park Dong-Soo (né en 1964)
Haemi 2019 Acrylic, Indian ink, rice paper and plaster on panel signed, dated and titled on back x cm Park Dong-Soo is a Korean artist who graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de Versailles. In 2023, he was honored with a carte blanche by the Musée national des arts asiatiques - Guimet. Today, he lives as a hermit in the Korean countryside.
His works explore the formation of the universe, the primitive explosion, and the infinitely large and small. Heir to traditional Korean artistic techniques, Park Dong-Soo subtly blends Western influences with those of his native country. After spending ten years in France, he chose to return to Korea to isolate himself in the quiet of the countryside.
A notable feature of his art is the sovereignty of black, a color that has been omnipresent in his work since childhood. Growing up in a large, poor family, he was forced to "settle in the dark", color being too expensive. Park Dong-Soo's work is marked by the duality of chaos and harmony, with the circle motif occupying a central place as a symbol of life. For him, each work is part of a unique whole, each creation both interdependent and singular.
