PROTESTANTISM - ANNONAY (Ardèche) - Georges CHAPONNIERE (b. 1770, pastor of Annonay from 1803 to 1831) / Autograph letter signed, 2 p small in-4 plus address page with postmarks, Annonay, August 19, 1826, to François-Antoine BOISSY d'ANGLAT (Ardèche 1756-1826, politician, Conventionnel de l'Ardèche, very involved in Protestant life in Annonay): Very close to Boissy d'Anglas, the pastor kept in touch with him by letter, informing him of news concerning his parishioners, the political climate, etc., the two men had worked for the installation of a temple; in this letter the pastor draws attention to several people, gives the progress of the opening of their elementary school, "another unforeseen difficulty comes to us from the Chamber of Peers, or at least from one of its members, your colleague Mr Latour-Maubourg absolutely wants our schoolmaster for his secretary, and when he learned that he was Protestant, he said that it was one more reason to desire to have him".
