Interesting single-necked vase. It is modeled after a seated spider monkey, its paws with sharp claws resting on the edge of its generous belly in a symbolic gesture. This animal is shown pregnant here, symbolizing fertility and fecundity, as well as clan protection. Coffee-red terracotta with brown decoration, a stripe on the reverse, overall in good condition. Guanacaste, Costa Rica, bi-chrome period, 300 BC to 300 AD Height 14.5 cm - Width: 11.5 cm - Length: 12.5 cm
