A GEORGE IV SILVER-GILT SNUFF BOX

John Linnit, London 1824, rectangular, the hinged cover with a border decorated in relief with hunting scenes, the underside of the cover inscribed To Capt. R.D. Guthrie / a token of Esteem from the undermentioned Passengers / BY THE SHIP HARRIET / Mrs Backhouse / Major Backhouse / Captain Carter / 9th Apl. 1827, the sides of the cover further engraved Capt J.A. Tween and Capt Simmons, the lid centred by script initials to a rectangular reserve, the lid, sides and base engine-turned. 8.7cm long, 4.9 troy ounces
The marks are clear. The hinge is in good condition, and the cover closes very tightly. There is some age-related wear to the surface. In generally good condition commensurate with age.
