Sylvain is one of four sons of Emma Hanskens and Franz Norga, wood sculptors and furniture makers in Oudenaarde.
He began by carving statues in marble and wood.
In 1920, with the help of his brother Michel, he set up the Norga foundry in Brussels. The foundry pioneered the production of bronze funerary sculptures, which can be found in Brussels cemeteries and churches. In 1935, he sold his company to Marcel Choux and moved to Juan-Les-Pins in France.
Sylvain Norga is also an excellent animal painter. Sports figures and Africanism are his other favorite subjects.
