MAHONGWE, Ogooué River, Gabon Wood, strips and copper wire The Mahongwe are part of the Kota group, living in the northeastern province of Gabon. represents a "Boho-na-Bwété" reliquary figure, literally meaning "face of the ancestor Bwete". It topped a basket containing the family's relics. It depicts a highly stylized, ogival-shaped face covered with stapled copper plates and strips, with cabochon-shaped eyes. Height: 52 cm. Slightly missing.
