19th century French school Christ in the Storm on the Sea of Galilee Oil sketch on canvas 1820-1830 41 x 33 cm "That day, when it was evening, he said to his disciples, 'Let's go over to the other side. Leaving the crowd, they took Jesus, as he was, into the boat. A violent storm came up. The waves were crashing against the boat, so that it was already filling up. He was asleep on the cushion at the stern. The disciples woke him up and said: "Master, we're lost, don't you care? Awakened, he threatened the wind and said to the sea: Silence, be quiet! And the wind died, and there was a great calm. This unusual subject, taken from the Gospel of Saint Mark, was treated by Rembrandt and Eugène Delacroix.
