IGNACIO PINAZO MARTÍNEZ (Valencia, 1883 - Godella, 1970). "Seated baby", 1917. Terracotta hand painted on fire. Signed and dated. Measurements: 9.5 x 7 x 7 cm. He was the son of the artist Ignacio Pinazo Camarlench. At the age of 9 he would begin his artistic career by the hand of his father, and later he would study at the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos, Valencia until he abandoned his studies to devote himself to sculpture. In 1900 he moved to Madrid where he joined Mariano Benlliure's workshop. Four years later he returned to his hometown where he obtained a pension from the Diputación de Valencia to continue his career in Rome. One of his first works was El grabador Esteve. In 1915 he obtained the Second Medal at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts for the sculpture El Saque. Other outstanding works were: El grabador Esteve, El Saque, El Enigma, Ofrenda, Flor de Valencia, Cabeza de labrador valenciano, Fantasía sobre la Dama de Elche, etc. He was interested in baroque and neoclassical statuary art, adopting characteristics of other artists such as Alonso Cano. In 1942 he made the image of Our Father Jesus Nazarene for the Brotherhood of Jesus (Nazarene) of the Holy Week of Cieza (Murcia). In 1950 he made the half-length bust with cape of Pedro Muñoz Seca located in the comedian's hometown, El Puerto de Santa María. In 1969 he was named Academician of Fine Arts and obtained several national and international decorations.
