Kramer, Joseph von - Galvanoplastik - inscribed in the sculpture 1841 Augsburg - 1908 Munich, cast mass, brown patina, rectangular base with rocaille decoration, allegory of commerce - figure of Mercury, seated on a half ship/soft cushion, below a box of glass with the inscription Vorsicht, to the side the attributes anchor and rope, in one hand he holds a money bag, in the other hand a telescope, in the hull of the ship an inscription "4. Sept, 1883 - 1908, M.L. father, Z. FRDL. ERG. HANS, traces of age, h approx. 47x43cm, Joseph von Kramer attended the art school in Nuremberg under August von Kreling and studied painting and sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Franz Widmann from 1860. He later taught at the carving school in Partenkirche and was a professor in Munich. His best-known work is the Hygieia Fountain in the courtyard of Hamburg City Hall.
