Tempesta, Antonio - 1555 Florence - 1630 Rome, Italian painter, draughtsman and etcher: "Illustriss. D. Francisco Perenotto Granvelano comiti a Cantacrov [...]", Departure for the Falconry, etching, 1596, signed and dated "Antonius Tempesta / inventor fecit 1596" in the lower left of the plate, dedication to Count Frederick Perrenot of Granvelle (1536 Barcelona - 1600 Dole; Count of Cante-Croix; since 1571 Governor of Antwerp, who tried to take a mediating role in the Dutch fight for freedom), without publisher's address "Andrea Voccario forma in Roma", image size approx. 42 x 55cm, on all sides on resp. trimmed on or just inside the picture frame, smoothed centerfold, small retouches, several marginal tears / creases, among them two not disturbing tears into the picture (ca. 2.8cm / 5.6cm), all repaired by laid paper doubling, occasional foxing in the margins (somewhat stronger in the upper margin), one somewhat larger stain in the upper central field, matted, frame behind glass (traces of age, unopened, approx. 66.5 x 79cm) - One of Tempesta's beautiful, extremely rare large-format major works, cf.
