Silvestro Lega (1826-1895)
Oil on canvas signed lower left 19 x 8 cm > Appraisal file and certificate by Antonella Peviani dated 10/06/95. Lega belonged to the Macchiaioli, a movement linked to the Risorgimento and which, from the mid-nineteenth century, opposed academicism and proposed a realistic revival of Italian painting. According to critic G. C. Argan, these painters "constructed a genuine and singular new approach to reality".
Painters such as G. Kiernek and O. Ghiglia were influenced by this movement.
