VUE DE RUELLE" by Victor CHARRETON (1864-1936) Framed oil on panel, signed lower left. Size: 50 x 75.5 cm Good condition Victor Charreton was a French painter who continued the legacy of the Impressionists with his depictions of the countryside. Combining varied passages of thick and thin paint, Charreton captured the transparency of light in a variety of weather conditions. Born on March 2, 1864 in Bourgoin-Jallieu, France, he studied law in Paris and worked as a lawyer for many years before devoting himself entirely to painting in 1902. In the decades that followed, Charreton traveled frequently throughout France and North Africa, during which time he produced a number of atmospheric winter scenes. From 1919 to 1925, he taught at the Académie Julian in Paris. The artist died on November 26, 1936 in Clermont-Ferrand, France. Today, Charreton's works are in the collections of the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Brooklyn Museum, among others.
