Influenced by the work of Barye, Delabrièrre exhibited for the first time at the 1848 Salon, and quickly achieved renown. His highly realistic, detailed subjects made him an important member of the animal school. In 1857, one of his sculptures, entitled "L'équitation", was incorporated into the façade of the Louvre.
