The scene is set in Rome, where Vleughels was head of the Académie de France, then located in the Palazzo Mancini on the Corso di Roma.
Corso. The central female figure is similar to the Fille de Frascati (Bernard Hercenberg, Nicolas Vleughels, Léonce Laget, Paris, 1976, repr. fig. 137).
