NASA. Apollo 16 mission. Astronaut Charles M. Duke Jr, lunar module pilot for the Apollo 16 mission, is photographed collecting lunar samples at Station No. 1 during Apollo 16's first extravehicular activity at the Descartes landing site. This photo, looking east, was taken by astronaut John W. Young, commander. Duke stands at the edge of the Plum crater, which has a diameter of 40 meters and a depth of 10 meters. The parked Lunar Roving Vehicle is visible in the left background. April 21, 1972.
