NASA. THE SUN. Exceptional, magnificent photography showing the spectacular detail of a solar flare. On August 31, 2012, a long filament of solar material erupted into space and hovered in the sun's atmosphere. The coronal mass ejection traveled at more than 900 miles per second. It did not travel directly towards the Earth, but came into contact with the Earth's magnetic environment, or magnetosphere, causing auroras to appear 3 days later, on the night of Monday September 3, 2012.
Vintage chromogenic print. Numbering on front. Legend on back label. 25.4 X 20.4CM with margins.
