Description:
The colour print shows a dynamic scene with a messenger on horseback, drawn by William Bentley, the work is entitled "COURIER FRANCOIS". The rider, dressed in traditional costume, whips his horse into a full gallop. A rural landscape with a thatched hut and a striking, densely sheeted tree forms the background. The scene is probably an expression of the sense of haste and urgency in the transmission of news at the time.
